Replace Preview Image

File cards in the Files menu show a preview to help you identify each file. You can replace an unhelpful preview without changing the file itself or what plays on devices.

Replacing the preview does not replace the file

Only the thumbnail in the management interface changes. Devices keep playing the same file, and every Content, Playlist and Channel keeps using it. To swap the file itself everywhere it is used, see Replace File References.

This is useful when a video's generated frame is unrepresentative, or when a file such as audio, JSON or a font has no meaningful visual thumbnail.

Replace a file preview​

  1. In the Files menu, right-click the file and select Replace preview image.
  2. Choose how to set the new preview:
    • From computer — upload your own PNG image.
    • Generate from file — create the preview again from the file itself. Available for videos, SVG, GIF and PDF files; not for HTML files.
  3. Select Replace to apply the new preview.

To change it again, repeat the same steps. To go back to an automatic preview, use Generate from file.

Replacing a file preview needs the Content manager role or higher.
